Face to Face Piano Lessons
Learn with Zdena in person at her home studio in Old Welwyn, a short distance from Codicote, Oaklands, Digswell, Knebworth, Stevenage.
Zdena is a dedicated piano teacher with ten years of experience. She also has fifteen years of experience bringing music to early-years students. Zdena is based in the charming village of Welwyn, just North of London.
Zdena studied piano at a specialist arts school in Prague from the age of five and completed all of her piano and music theory exams. Since moving to the UK twenty years ago Zdena has played and taught piano and has performed as an accompanist on church organ for many years.
After teaching piano independently for several years, Zdena joined the team at the busy Ebony & Ivory Music School in Colindale, North West London, in 2015. This gave her an opportunity to expand her roster of students and to work with colleagues on group music activities including rock and pop band workshops and concerts.
Approach to Teaching
Every student is a unique individual who learns in their own way and at their own pace. Developing good technique and theoretical knowledge are essential to the process but these can be acquired within a framework that focuses on musicality and appreciation of the joy of playing music. Improvisation and exploration is core to music learning and all students flourish when these are included in the learning experience. It is also valuable to help students cultivate their individual taste and their love for listening to music. Whatever draws you to music is the key to learning.
Learning to play the piano is not just about moving fingers across the keyboard. It’s about learning to communicate the essence of a piece of music to the listener. Posture, breathing, focus and relaxation are also important components of becoming a well-rounded and accomplished musician. Learning to practice effectively helps to cultivate inner-discipline and the ability to set and accomplish achievable goals. As students evolve, they experience growing self-esteem and confidence.
